Dr. Whitney Dessio
Preventive Medicine Physician & Certified Wound Specialist
Whitney Dessio, M.D., CWSP, began her undergraduate studies at Mercy College’s Honors Program located in Dobbs Ferry, NY. She ultimately completed her BA in anthropology from Columbia University School of General Studies. While an undergrad, she worked as a junior researcher at Columbia University’s Rosenthal Center for Alternative Medicine and Women’s Health where she co-authored several publications. Upon entering SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, she was awarded the W. Burghardt Turner Doctoral Fellowship. During residency in Preventive Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook, she simultaneously earned an MPH at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
Dr. Dessio became interested in wound care while a resident, building on her dermatology-focused research and publications which she started in medical school. She is Board-Certified in Preventive Medicine by the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) and holds a Certification in Wound Care for Physicians (CWSP). In 2014, she joined Kane Wound Care where she enjoys providing high quality, comprehensive wound care to skilled nursing facility residents in sub-acute, long term and assisted living settings across New Jersey. Her interests include difficult-to-treat and chronic wounds, pressure wounds, platelet rich plasma (PRP), patient behaviors on wound outcomes, hospital-to-SNF wound prevention, caregiver and patient education.
